We live in a sci-fi world. Cars drive themselves. Robots do our homework for us. And pop stars are going to space. These can all be very hard ideas to wrap your head around. But when you think of life as a movie, these things start to make a little bit more sense. Sci-fi movies have been preparing us for the world that we live in for decades. They’ve been laying out a roadmap for what the world could look like when we have artificial intelligence, high-speed travel, and the ability to translate languages at the drop of a hat. But does that help us cope with our reality? It’s different for everyone. 

Sometimes it’s better to escape into a world that you know is fiction rather than think about the implications of the real world. It’s why many of our favorite sci-fi movies and TV shows are comfort watches. We know that when we turn off the television set, none of it is real. We can’t say that about our world now. Although I guess reality is subjective at the end of the day. But we know that we have memes.
