To date someone with kids, or not to date someone with kids. It’s a question that many young, single people have to ask themselves, and there’s not always a clear answer. I’ve had friends who’ve had boyfriends or girlfriends with kids from a previous relationship, but fathers and mothers in question usually aren’t the ones with primary custody of the kids. It’s a lot easier to be the girlfriend of a dad if he’s not driving them to school every day and putting them to bed every night. When you’re in a relationship where you could one day fill a stepmom or stepdad role, you have to consider whether the relationship is going in a more serious direction. If you’re uncomfortable about it from the jump, you shouldn’t date someone with kids. You might be comfortable with it in theory, but in practice, it’s much harder not to come first.
