What propels us to scroll forward? What makes us return to these websites day in and day out? What’s in it for us? There’s a sense of being «in the know,» that’s a big one. You wouldn’t want to miss out on anything that the kids are talking about. There’s the promise of laughter, and who doesn’t want to laugh? If you tweet yourself, there’s also the thrill of someone liking your tweet, or even responding to it. What if someone thinks you’re funny? Wouldn’t you want to know about that? 

Every time you check Twitter, you’re hoping for something. That’s what keeps us going- the promise that one day we will see the perfect tweet that will change our lives for us. It will dispense a piece of wisdom we need to hear or make us think about a situation differently. Or it will be so funny that we will be compelled to share it with everyone in our lives and thus deepen our friendships.
