Twitter is a powerful thing. The name itself is so powerful that I continue to call it by that despite it having a new name for a couple of years now. But when you grow up with Twitter, it’s hard to call it anything else. This was back when celebrities would pop up just to ask, «How are we doing this morning?» Back when it was casual and not completely rotted by irony, when you grow up with something, it could be hard to let it go. I remember when Twitter first came on the scene, and everyone was amazed that anyone would read something that short. The character limit seemed like a challenge.
Now we live in a world where it’s a much taller order to pick up a full-length book. Is that a good thing? Most definitely not. But the times have changed, and we’re changing with them. Plus, there’s still a lot about Twitter that is worth sticking around for. There’s a lot of discourse, jokes, takes, and more that we would never get if we weren’t logged on.
