If there’s one thing the internet loves discussing, it’s age gap relationships. Recently, it has become a lot more common for people to criticize older people, especially older men, who seek relationships with young women ages 18-22. This issue can get a bit blurry because nobody knows where to draw the line. Is there a point in somebody’s twenties where dating someone of any age is ethical? Does the weirdness only apply to relationships or hookups as well? Do these standards only apply to people deemed too young to have a developed pre-frontal cortex? The ethics of an age-gap relationship can only be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, which generates a lot of annoying discourse. 

Honestly, I don’t really care about most age-gap relationships. I think that once you’re in your early twenties, there’s nothing supremely wrong with dating someone years older than yourself. However, I think everyone has the right to find certain age gaps weird, especially when you personally know the people in these relationships. If your 45-year-old uncle is bragging about dating a 23-year-old, you have every right to tell him he’s a weird creep, especially when you know him personally enough to call him a weird creep. One Twitter user told her coworker something similar when he told her about his weekend escapades, and Twitter users are conflicted about whether she’s in the right.
