The phrase «You learn something new every day» is widely attributed to Ralph Waldo Emerson, and we have really got to give Twitter some props for bringing an insane amount of truth to those words. It feels like every time we log onto the bird app, we learn something horrible, interesting, or altogether puzzling. Fortunately, today’s learning moment falls into the «interesting» category, and involves a plane dumping a buttload of fish into a beautiful Utah lake.

The video comes to us from Kansas City’s KCTV5 Twitter account (and Reuters), who shared the footage of the «aerial restocking» with the assurance that the «survival of aerial-stocked fish is incredibly high.» Restocking lakes with native species is important, but some lakes aren’t reachable by car. That’s where planes come in.
Knowing that most fish were not harmed in this process allows us to truly appreciate the insanity of what looks like the plane diarrhea-ing into pristine wilderness waters. We’re not the only appreciators of this crazy video. The clip went viral pretty quickly, inspiring awestruck reactions, concern, and, of course, jokes on Twitter. While some were better than others, we’re just glad to see this phenomenon in video form. Here’s hoping some of the fishies get to enjoy their new homes before finding themselves on the end of a hook.
