Were you a Barney kid or a Sesame Street kid? You could’ve been both! We loved big, fluffy characters teaching us about life back in the day. Now it’s all animation and overstimulation. But before Bluey, there was Sesame Street!
The Jim Henson production is and forever will be iconic. A neighborhood where humans and puppets alike all live in harmony and learn valuable life lessons from one another? The ideal world, tbh! The puppetry was the most impressive, and the production are not just the sets, but also the puppets themselves; it is one of a kind. This children’s show was ahead of its time in its discourse around politics, aging, life and the end of life, and more. They were able to have discussions with children that are hard even for parents to have with their own kids.
As the children who grew up on Sesame Street grow older, we still hold onto the life lessons the show taught us. We learned to hold onto joy as best as we can and be true to our hearts. So, as millennials, that means memes. Memes are our lifeline and have been since Y2K. That means that nobody is safe from being memeified and that includes the beloved characters of Sesame Street. They don’t mind, though! They have always loved to put a smile on our faces.
