One of my favorite quotes from the TV show Peep Show (and there are many) is when Mark is laboring over a homemade dinner and says, «Four hours of work to make something that if I’m lucky will taste almost as nice as a piece of freshly buttered toast.» And that got me because it’s true. A piece of freshly buttered toast is perhaps one of the best foods in the world. It may be simple, but its combination of crunch, salt, fat, and nuttiness… well it goes toe to toe with any Michelin star creation in my book.
If you’re a true bread lover you know this. No soup of mine is complete without a side of bread. No morning egg dish feels right unless there’s toast nearby. And though sometimes a wrap will hit the spot, a sandwich with two pieces of good bread takes the cake every time. And what is cake if not a form of sweet bread?
