Memes will slip away from you in an instant. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen what looks like a funny meme on Twitter, accidentally refreshed the page, and lost that meme to the sands of time forever. It’s the impermanent nature of the Internet in action. I’m sure many of your favorite websites from when you were a kid do not exist anymore without the Wayback Machine, and even the future of that function is on thin ice. So many of my favorite tweets were once deleted and only continue to exist through the distribution of screenshots. When your mom said everything you post online will be there forever, she wasn’t 100% correct. Your social media posts and websites you coded in middle school will slip through your fingers faster than sand, and you won’t be able to find them 20 years later, even when you want to.
