As one version of this meme once espoused, we may have been born too late to make certain important discoveries about the world and too early for mainstream space travel, but we were born at just the right time to appreciate some dank memes. Insignificant they may seem when we gaze upon them, one by one, but as a whole, they are a cultural phenomenon much greater than the sum of their parts. In looking at and even creating these silly internet pictures, we are participating in a piece of history. It may well be forgotten at some point, but that is all a part of the bittersweet beauty that it entails. 

You don’t have to think that deeply about the lighthearted entertainment that you are about to digest, though. It is more than enough to keep on scrolling, observe the amusement, maybe laugh a little, and then move to with whatever else you have going on.
