The plan was simple. Seven kids, one pot of money, everyone gets an equal slice. Fair, clean, done. The wife came into the marriage with serious assets, something like fifteen times more than her husband, but she never lorded it over him. Everything went into the same pile. It was their life, their money, their family.
And then somewhere between now and estate planning, her husband decided equality was optional. He’s cut off two of his three kids and wants his one remaining son to get the shares that would’ve gone to the others. Three sevenths for him, one seventh each for her four kids. Suddenly the man who brought barely anything to the table wants to play financial god with someone else’s contributions.
She’s not trying to pick a fight. She just thinks fair should still mean fair. But he’s angry, calling her unsupportive, acting like being the voice of reason is some personal betrayal. She’s sitting there wondering how the math turned into a moral standoff.
