This time of year, we’re surrounded by all types of design. Probably more than we usually are. Stores, streets, and homes are decked to the nines in the holiday swag. People are climbing ladders and fighting the elements to put up lights, trees, animatronics, and more. People really go hard for Christmas. At least where I live. I think it’s because we need somewhere to direct our creative energies. Maybe we have boring jobs that don’t require a lot of creativity from us. Maybe we’re too busy with the realities of life to indulge in a creative hobby. 

But when Christmas comes around, the opportunity arises. It’s socially accepted to go off on decorations, and it gives you that thrill of creation that comes when you’re putting your heart into a project. That’s one of the things that’s wonderful about this time of year. People who don’t usually create bring out the best side of themselves, and it’s a joy for everyone to see. That’s why they call it the most wonderful time of the year. But that doesn’t stop the bad stuff from coming too.
