These designs will take you by surprise. And then they’ll take you to laugh town.

As a person who spends a lot of time thinking about what makes people laugh, I still ultimately have no idea. It’s mysterious to me, and it’s probably mysterious to you, too. There is definitely a formula that you can follow to reliably secure some laughs (a.k.a. tragedy plus time), but outside of that, what makes us laugh is a pretty slippery thing. We don’t know what’s going to tickle our fancy in a certain moment. It might be something innocuous, it might be something unintentional, or it might be something totally out of left field. Either way, or giggling in spite of ourselves, and we wish we could do that on command.

Maybe you have things that were lively that make you laugh. For me, it’s when somebody mispronounces something in a really funny way. Any goofiness with the English language tends to get me. Also, when animals have personalities. I could watch that stuff all day long and never get tired of it. But sometimes laughs are more ambiguous. Maybe somebody will tell you a story, and you laugh too early.
