It’s a tough job market out there, and you would probably do a lot to keep a job that you enjoy and pays you well. But maybe you draw a line somewhere. The employee in this story, which he shared on the antiwork subreddit, certainly had one. Facial hair is a very personal thing. You probably want to be in control of it when you can. Some people also have faces that very much necessitate beards. If you took their facial hair away, everything would fall apart. You don’t want to feel like you’re living your whole life in service of your job. You want to feel like you can have some separation of church and state, as it were. When you clock out, you don’t want to feel like you’ve altered yourself just because of your chosen career. But sometimes we have to make sacrifices for where we work. This is the world that we live in. But we want those sacrifices to be within reason. You already sacrifice so much time and energy just by virtue of having a job. You have to clock in, be there, and give yourself over to the tasks at hand. But you also have to manage the way you look. Maybe your work has a certain uniform or dress code, and you have to adhere to that. It might not be anything you would wear on your day off, so you’re sacrificing your choice in that regard. But what about facial hair?
