How do you react when hard work at your job goes underappreciated?

There is a school of thought that suggests that a lot of jobs do not actually reward their employees when they put in the extra effort. They believe that when your results are too good in your current position, management does not feel as motivated to offer the appropriate recognition in case they have to replace the role you currently hold. Also, they want to save money by avoiding a raise.

At the same time, this is totally counterproductive to keeping a business functioning. Most places wouldn’t get by if there weren’t at least some employees who were willing to go the extra mile, especially in a crisis. If those workers are not appreciated in the way that they had hoped for, it is only a matter of time before they decide to take their talents elsewhere. A lack of acknowledgement is a dangerous game for a boss to play.

Nonetheless, countless employees find themselves on the receiving end of this kind of behavior after they have tried their hardest to support the company that they worked for. It is frustrating to feel like your efforts have all been for nothing.
