Hospital employee gets reprimanded for being a ‘no-call, no-show’ despite clocking in early and working for hours, then gets sent home mid-shift: ‘Nobody knew I was there’

When showing up for work somehow isn’t enough…

Clocking in early, signing the attendance sheet, and completing hours of work would seem like enough proof that an employee actually showed up. One hospital housekeeper was stunned when their supervisor marked them as a «no call, no show,» claiming nobody knew they were there, then sent them home just three hours into a 12-hour shift. Now, with HR getting involved and fears of losing their job growing, they are wondering whether they are being unfairly targeted.

This story is pretty funky for multiple reasons. For instance, it looks like the OP was set up, and all of this dilemma with her being at work and not being seen sounds very sketchy and really weird. We are talking about a hospital housekeeper, meaning that hospitals tend to be large buildings with a huge number of employees, so having this woman not being seen doesn’t sound uncommon.

But, besides that point, she indeed clocked in for work ten minutes before her shift started! So, she was indeed at the building, being as responsible as always, and got to work right away. I don’t know what’s going on here… that’s why I feel this is something odd and very rare.

The weirdest part of all is that she was sent home three hours into her 12-hour shift due to the same reason: «not being seen». What is that supposed to mean in this context? And I’m more than sure that none of her coworkers were seen as well… I don’t understand how she has to be seen for her to be at work. What’s the point of showing up early and clocking in if she will be called a «no-show» regardless?

I hope she can sort this situation out and talk to her manager about this misunderstanding. If this was a mistake and not a setup, I certainly wish for her to be cleared and return to her duties as soon as possible.
