What we choose to cook and eat can say a lot about us.
It is just as much an indicator of our background, lifestyle, and choices as the kind of clothes we wear or what job we have. Food is a very personal thing, even for those who do not care for it that much. It is an amalgamation of so many cultural influences and personal choices that it is possible to write an entire essay on the specifics of what you had for dinner last night.
However, it is not like most of us are thinking too hard about the societal implications when we shop for groceries or figure out a meal plan for the week. For the majority, just finding something relatively tasty that stops us from being hungry is good enough for every meal. Maybe if we’re really dedicated, we care about the nutritional profile as well. Food is considered a need and a pleasure, and little else.
Things get even more layered when we take into consideration the fact that the stuff that we eat is a pretty solid topic for humor. In fact, there is a whole genre of memes and amusing social media posts about it that rival even the internet supremacy of cats. One of the few things that is undeniably more popular than cute animals is amazing food. Even the less appetizing stuff can prove a good thing to turn into an image macro that a surprising number of people may end up relating to.
