Eating is a fundamental need shared by nearly every living organism on the planet.

Human beings are no exception to this rule. However, what truly distinguishes us from all the other hungry species is that we don’t just eat; we put significant effort and creativity into our food before we consume it. Rather than eating things as they come, humans have developed complex methods of preparation for many different edible items. In this way, cooking represents one of the most significant turning points in human evolution. The ability to cook our food has improved nutrition and safety, as well as proving to be one of the most important parts of cultural identity all over the world. It has evolved far beyond a habit that we have to do for survival.

This is something that most people appreciate, as eating and life in general would be considerably less enjoyable without the deliciousness that cooking provides. Without it, we would be faced with eating plain fruit, vegetables, and meat all the time (and just because some people still choose to do that doesn’t mean it’s right). While the richness that comes from a lot of cooking may not always be forgiving to our waistlines, it enhances the experience of eating in a way that we just can’t give up. 

Not only that, but cooking has also become a source of entertainment that has made a successful transfer to memes. The wide range of processes that take place in kitchens everywhere has inspired an entire category of internet humor. Sometimes it is relatable and other times, just plain unappetizing, but it all falls under the same umbrella of being inspired by what we consider edible.
