Celebrity Charity Auction in Support of SAG-AFTRA Strike Spawns Goofy Meme of Peoples’ Fake Dream Bids

It has been a summer of tough times for the entertainment industry, thanks to the SAG-AFTRA union announcing strike action for their 160,000 strong members. The bold move has been in response to threats on working conditions coming from streaming and artificial intelligence.

Numerous famous people have drawn public attention for their support or controversial rejection of the strike, but nothing has captured the runaway imagination of the internet quite like one of the latest ploys designed to support those who are striking. It was announced last week that numerous actors, writers, and directors were auctioning experiences to have with them on eBay, to raise funds for crew members whose healthcare benefits may be threatened by the strike.

They offered some intriguing propositions for those with hundreds to thousands of dollars to spare, such as getting Adam Scott to walk your dog, or the cast of Bob’s Burgers singing a personalized song for you. However, what turned out to really tickle people was making up their own wild and elaborate lots that they wished were part of the auction. It has to be said, some of these dream bids would be very intriguing. They make for pretty funny meme, too.
