CEO Shames Pregnant Employee For Going to the Emergency Room

Nobody wants to have a medical emergency, yet sometimes we get shamed or scolded when we do. It’s common for people, especially women, to be accused of faking or exaggerating symptoms. Why? Who knows. Usually, the accusation goes that a woman in severe pain is trying to get drugs, attention, or both. It is incredibly dehumanizing to those suffering from excruciating ailments to be dismissed or told that they’re making it all up.

This kind of dismissal doesn’t only happen within the confines of the doctor’s office: it can also be used by employers to deter workers from seeking medical treatment! Oh boy! Redditor u/MariaJane833 experienced this firsthand when she went to the emergency room for dehydration. She was pregnant and incredibly worried about how this could affect her baby. When she came back, the CEO of her company had some choice words for anyone thinking about going to the ER on the company’s dime for seemingly frivolous reasons. She shared her story with r/antiwork, and they were disgusted by this clear violation of her privacy.
