My best friend despises crabs. He got pinched by one on a beach when he was a small child, and now he has an eternal vendetta against all things that have exoskeletons, scuttle, and come with pincers. The thought of encountering a live crustacean sends shivers down his spine; he’s a long term vegetarian who likes to watch videos of them being smashed up or boiled alive, ideally dubbed with Mr Krabs screaming in the background.

Like a wannabe super villain with an anti-shellfish agenda, this makes him laugh and laugh. However, I don’t join in. In my opinion, crabs are pretty cool. They’re one of the only creatures that are so evolutionarily sound that they haven’t changed things up in millions of years, and they spend most of their time walking sideways, just because. Plus, hermit crabs are one of the few species in the animal kingdom that actually get to choose their outfit, and we can’t deny the drip. 

They’re a fascinating species, and they deserve every meme about them, whether they’re complimentary or not. If history is anything to go by, they’re going to be sticking around for a very long time.
