Dad restricts 19-year-old daughter’s laptop use because he doesn’t believe she’s spending 8-10 hours a day doing homework: ‘I don’t understand why every assignment needs a computer or laptop.’

Extremely old people often don’t realize just how much work one can accomplish on a laptop. You can work a 9-to-5 job, write a novel, correspond with people all over the world, code, earn a degree, and network like nobody’s business with just a regular PC. I understand the impulse that thinking any time spent using a screen is mind-numbing, but the difference between working on a laptop and working on your phone is worlds apart.

You would think that middle-aged people would know this to be true. After all, they’ve spent the majority of their careers working on computers. The average 50-year-old doesn’t think that laptops are only good for playing video games and pirating movies, but some of them don’t associate laptops with productivity at all. They believe any time spent on technology can’t be time spent being productive, which is just plain silly. Things have changed a lot since they were in college.
