When you really want something to happen, rejection can be a hard thing to process. Taking a chance only to be knocked back again is a disheartening experience, and it’s how we react to it that helps us move on with our lives. This is especially true of romantic relationships — although the high stakes emotion makes many people especially prone to drastically dumb decisions. 

An example of this recently played out in the DMs of @emilylina, when she was asked by one of her followers if she was in a relationship. When she replied that she had a boyfriend, the response was so overdramatic that she had to share it on Twitter.

While some people identified a worrying amount with the unexpected death wish, most were perplexed by the unwelcome interaction. It seems like her admirer had been inspired by other overly intense suitors, and their reactions were just as over the top. It may be true that it can be easier to shoot our shot on social media, but perhaps it’s time to learn some manners while we do it.
