Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced the company’s foray into humanoid robots during Tesla’s AI Day livestream last night. The bot, which is aptly named ‘Tesla Bot’ will operate on the same intelligence as the company’s self-driving cars.

Musk’s announcement has garnered a lot of attention – and not just because they chose to use a dancing human dressed as a robot to promote their future product. Firstly, it doesn’t bode well for people whose job is to do the «repetitive tasks»that Tesla designed the bots to complete. Secondly? Robots are f*cking scary. The whole robots killing their creators trope has been shoved down our throats so many times that any AI tech announcement is met with at least a little bit of anxiety.
That anxiety and Twitter’s collective sense of humor resulted in something a lot more fun than technological fear mongering – they resulted in memes. There are jokes about Tesla Bot stealing your girl, and more general jokes about a bizarre future where the robots have been completely integrated into life as we know it. While both themes are dubious at best, we do relish the opportunity to enjoy jokes at Elon Musk’s expense. You know, until his robots turn on any meme-makers who dare challenge their existence.
