Employee calls coworker’s handwriting ‘hostile,’ complains she feels ‘unsafe’ reading labels he wrote: ‘Last week I got called to HR’

When you’re an easily annoyed person, anything can set you off. Maybe you have one of these kinds of people in your life. They’re insufferable to be around. They will take any minor annoyance and turn it into a huge thing. When you work with one of these people, your life tends to get at least 50% more miserable.

That’s what happened to his employee, whose new coworker had a strange complaint. You’ve heard of people complaining about loud chewers, strong smells, or listening to stuff out loud with no headphones. These are all pretty reasonable complaints. You know what’s not a reasonable complaint? Ripping into someone’s handwriting. Unless you’re complaining about not being able to read something important, you don’t really have a leg to stand on. People can’t really change their handwriting without a heck of a lot of effort. Plus, it’s an expression of our individuality. It has no bearing on what we feel about other people; it’s just the way we write. But that didn’t stop one coworker from making a formal request that their colleague change the way they write.
