Most people are not OK with somebody giving their address out to strangers.
It is a pretty basic self-preservation skill not to let random people know where you live unless you are fully aware of it and have a valid reason for it. Even putting aside safety concerns, it isn’t fun to have strangers turning up on your doorstep all of the time. It disturbs the peace.
In all honesty, sometimes it isn’t even advisable to share your address with those you are friendly with, or if you do, you should have some firm boundaries. There are an unfortunate number of individuals who see friendship as an opportunity to take advantage of the resources of other people instead of a give-and-take. Access to somebody else’s home can throw up some problems here.
This isn’t to say that it is wrong to do a friend a favor, or keep them shut out of your life altogether. It is simply important to be mindful of when certain boundaries are being crossed, and stop that as quickly as possible. Anybody who has an outsized reaction to this is likely not worth worrying about too much, although they may know where you live.
