Some favors are simply not worth doing.

We all know that part of being a good friend is helping people out when we’re able to do so. If we want the community from that village that everybody keeps talking about, we have to make sure that we show up for them appropriately instead of expecting things to happen with no personal input. Not only does this contribute to being a decent person, but it can also be something that gets repaid over time.

That being said, offering support to friends can sometimes come with risk. It may be that the gesture didn’t turn out to be what you thought it would be, or maybe they just didn’t appreciate it like you thought they would. One thing is for sure: sometimes doing a favor for a friend can reveal their true nature in the most unpleasant of ways. Not all relationships are worth investing in, and that includes the platonic ones. Not everybody holds another person’s friendship in high esteem, and they will show that in the ways that they accept what their friends have to give them. It isn’t a fun lesson to learn when you are trying to do something positive.
