The business of making jokes about cats on the internet is a serious one.

There is a lot of storied history behind it at this point, so we have to be respectful of that fact while still delivering the adorable and ridiculous humor for which our feline friends have become famed. No matter how stupid the joke or how silly the picture, it has taken decades of making and sharing cat memes on the internet to get to the point where this is a form of social currency. We cannot forget that.

At the same time, it isn’t like human beings only started finding cats entertaining with the advent of the internet. Ever since they started cosying up to the Ancient Egyptians, people have been endeared by their antics, even when they involve little more than eating, sleeping, and meowing for more food. They have always had that aura of star power, and the invention of internet memes has simply found the perfect way of showcasing that.

It has to be said that nothing beats living with a cat or several, and having a front row seat to whatever it is that they get up to when they are going about their business. However, memes that involve cats are a worthy substitute and provide all of the entertainment without the scratched-up furniture and occasional vomit on the carpet. The fact that they have been around for this long suggests that enough people think they are very much worth it.
