‘Her brother doesn’t like me and the feeling is mutual’: New dad’s brother-in-law asks him to babysit his kid on Father’s Day, doesn’t understand why he declines

Holidays are important. Sure, they might be kind of made up and arbitrary, but that doesn’t mean they don’t matter to us. We only get so many chances to celebrate someone or something in our lifetimes. We spend so much time just getting through the day-to-day that it doesn’t hurt to stop and smell the roses every chance we get. Holidays are a perfectly carved-out time for us to do that. This is especially true of Mother’s and Father’s Day.

These days are too often overlooked, since it usually falls on the children to make sure that they are celebrated, and kids aren’t always the best at doing that. But these days are important because they give us the chance to stop and thank those who are most important to us. They probably don’t hear enough about how much they matter to us. And it makes sense that we all like to be celebrated.
