Just Because You Didn’t Laugh at Something Doesn’t Mean Sketch Comedy Isn’t Funny

Everyone has a different sense of humor. We’ve all shown a friend a clip that we thought was really funny, only to anxiously watch their faces for a laugh that never comes. Humor is an incredibly personal thing, and what makes one person laugh might make another person cringe. But too often online, we assume that our personal reactions are the absolute truth. We’re too eager to extrapolate our opinions to make broad-sweeping critiques. Recently, a front-facing comedy video poking fun at «film bros» went viral on Twitter, but not because people were laughing and relating to it. They claimed that it was a parody of a person who «doesn’t exist,» therefore nullifying the satire, leading commenters to question the genre as a whole. One commenter wrote, «as a society we gotta do something drastic about skit people.»
