However we want to describe it, one of the main reasons that memes continue to be so popular is that they are masters in the element of surprise. Once you know enough about silly internet things, it might be expected that you feel like you’ve seen it all. 

That couldn’t be further from the truth — there are so many possible references and combinations out there that there is always something weird and wonderful around the corner. Sure, it can mean shifting through some boring stuff first, but few good things come about without at least a little bit of effort. It could be argued that going through a list like this is one of the easiest ways of doing this, because it’s only a snapshot of the huge overwhelming wave of things out there.
