Travel to any middle class, suburban neighborhood in the USA and you’re guaranteed to find a few things. There will be a plethora of McMansions, a load of nice cars parked in the driveways and most importantly, lots of wide expanses of grass. No white picket fence dream is complete without a big old patch of lawn to call one’s own.

However, these perfectly manicured yards are not to everyone’s taste — not least when it comes to the environment. All those sprinklers, pesticides, and gas-powered lawn mowers aren’t doing Mother Earth any favors, and that’s before we get into the loss of biodiversity that comes from dedicating our outside space to these uniform rectangles. On top of that, they’re kind of boring to look at. Unless you spend a lot of time at home playing sports, what’s the point of going to the effort of maintaining it? 

Thanks to these reasons and more, there is a small but growing niche for anti-lawn memes. If these are anything to go by, the age of grass is over. It’s all about saving the bees now, my dudes.
