She shouldn’t have to walk on eggshells because her sister has weird food hangups.
There’s a lot of debate over whether being overly restrictive with your child’s diet is worse for them than letting them eat unhealthy food with some regularity. It feels like every decade, there’s a new ingredient that’s the angel and another one that’s the devil. The 2020s are undoubtedly the decade of the angelic protein. Restaurants have started adding protein to literally everything because it’s supposedly the most important ingredient in a healthy diet. Even mango-flavored refresher drinks from Dunkin’ Donuts are filled with protein! I’m unconvinced that taking something unhealthy and filling it with a ton of protein powder will suddenly make it healthy, but then again, I’m not a registered dietician.
There is no shortage of food devils these days. Sugar is an old favorite, but seed oils probably define the decade as the most maligned ingredient. Who among us is old enough to remember when fat was allegedly the worst thing a person could eat? There used to be so many «fat-free» products on the market, but it seems like they’ve evaporated. If you’re a real old timer, you’ll remember when health-conscious people would choose margarine over butter because they thought it was far healthier. Now we know that that’s not the case. If you don’t want to choose the wrong food boogey man, it’s probably best that you eat food in moderation instead of cutting everything out of your diet in hopes that the food angel of your times will finally be the one that will come out on top.
