Is it always a bad thing to use AI for artwork?
Much has been said about how those who promote artificial intelligence seem to want it to do all the fun, creative stuff that people are actually supposed to enjoy while downplaying its use for the more boring things where it may be genuinely useful. There is definitely a certain kind of person who is so dazzled by the abilities of AI that they outsource almost everything to it, including the stuff that should bring them joy to do themselves. For example, why would you want a computer to be the first to read to your child instead of you? It is important not to lose sight of what should be real.
The kids of today are growing up in a world where the use of AI is completely normalized, for better or for worse. In terms of education, there is a strong argument to be made that it prevents students from learning in the way that they should and encourages them to rely on the computer instead of using their brains. Still, it is unrealistic to expect that today’s children will have absolutely no exposure to anything AI-generated, and there are ways to use it that are not completely negative and brainrot-inducing. The best of use of it is when it comes from a place of very human dedication, or when it is something that is not likely to matter in the long run anyway. With so much of the world using AI nowadays, it is the best that we can hope for.
