What is her problem?
There are a lot of parents who police their children’s gender expression. They don’t allow their girls to dress masculine or get short haircuts out of fear that they’ll be mistaken for boys, and they forbid their sons from playing with dolls or playing dress-up the same way their sisters do. I don’t agree with this because I think that kids should be allowed to play and experiment without adult biases ruining their fun. The only reason there are «boy toys» and «girl toys» is that it makes marketing the product easier. If a toy is gender-neutral, a parent isn’t pressured to buy more than one for her son and daughter. If a toy comes in a girl and a boy version, a parent is more likely to buy the boy version for her son and the girl version for her daughter.
While some parents take action to ensure their children play in a «gender appropriate» way, most do not go as far as the mom in this story. She is on a whole other level.
