Older sister kicks out her unemployed 24-year-old brother and his pregnant girlfriend after they mock her sick husband for cooking and not having a job: ‘Cooking is a weird hobbies for a big guy (6’3) like him’

It’s important to care for family members during their time of need. So many people move to live near their parents as they age because they have a sense of duty towards caring for them and helping, even when their parents don’t ask for help directly. But there’s a big difference between helping and enabling a family member who is behaving badly. I would 100% let my sister sleep on my couch if she lost her job and desperately needed a place to stay, but I wouldn’t let her stay there for months without helping around the house or trying to find a job. If someone is bad with money and all of their family members keep giving them money to help them out of their financial woes, that’s enabling their bad habits instead of giving them the tools to succeed in the future. Enabling bad financial behavior always has the same outcome.
