It has been a turbulent day for hot dog fans and competitive eating aficionados. One minute, Nathan’s Famous Hotdog eating contest has been canceled due to inclement weather, and the next minute you see Joey Chestnut slamming down Frankfurters. It’s been a wild independence day.

In summary, stormy weather and lightning canceled the Coney Island competition, but sources say, the glizzy grandmaster himself, Chestnut, pushed for the continuation of the contest once the weather let up. The rest is history. Chestnut ate a ridiculous 63 hotdogs and won his 15th Mustard Belt at Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest. 

I’m a hotdog fan. I’ve got a 20-pack in my fridge, I’ve been known to indulge in frequent frankfurters, and I was seriously considering attending the competition as a viewer. Say what you will about competitive eating, you at least have to admit it’s impressive. Watching an individual conquer that many hotdogs in such a short amount of time? That’s a unique feat.
