People Share Their Worst Zoom Horror Stories

2020 was a difficult year. We had to cope with a pandemic that has killed nearly one million people here in the United States and nearly six million worldwide. As it became clear that the virus wasn’t going anywhere, workplaces, schools, and even friend groups took their meetings and events out of real life and onto the internet. It has been an adjustment, and one that people have taken slightly better than having to wear a mask in public.

While holding classes and hosting meetings on Zoom has been a convenient solutions to some of the issues posed by Covid-19 (and by distance between offices) the application has its downsides. One poor connection can destroy the efficiency of a meeting, and it can be awkward to know when to speak up during the thick silences where we’re just starting at squares of faces. But there are far worse downsides than these. We learned this back when Jeffrey Toobin whipped it out during a meeting, and was subsequently suspended from the New Yorker. That public blunder was just a taste of what people are apparently dealing with every time they use Zoom. Redditor u/yarakmansarak1 has accumulated some serious proof in this thread where he asks people to share the most terrifying things they’ve witnessed during zoom calls.
