Being the only one in the group who needs to save money is annoying. Nobody wants to be the one to refuse to go out because they can’t afford it, or skip fun group activities because they know they can’t spend any money on them.
That being said, you can’t expect your friends to give up going out just because you can’t join. They are not to blame for your financial situation, and they shouldn’t suffer the consequences. The only one who should deal with those is you.
When the sibling in the story below opted out of getting fast food at the end of a fun day at the amusement park with their family, they shouldn’t have expected everyone else to do the same. It wasn’t their fault they this sibling couldn’t spend any money, and they shouldn’t have stayed hungry just for their sake.
The sibling, however, thought it was disrespectful that everyone else in the car still went out to get food. As they sat there waiting for their return, they decided they would not pay for the gas expenses as agreed, just because they couldn’t afford to eat out with their family.
