The Cringiest Parenting Texts of the Week (August 2, 2023)

No parent is perfect. Every mom or dad will screw up at some point in their life in the 18 years it takes for an infant to become an adult, and best believe it won’t be without consequences. That era of the parent-child relationship is one I’m less interested in. What’s more interesting to me is when parents treat their adult children like they’re still kids. It’s a fascinating phenomenon that’s been exacerbated by technology. Parents can track their adult kid’s locations to see where they are and pontificate upon what they’re doing there. Parents can look at and pick apart their adult children’s social media presence.

Most importantly, parents can communicate with their kids over text. Texting might not seem that novel at this point in history, but I think it dramatically impacts communication. So many parents say things over text that they would never say in real life, and these wild parenting texts demonstrate this perfectly.
