August 11th is National Daughters and Sons Day. If you’re a parent, you’re probably thinking, «isn’t EVERYDAY daughters and sons day?» To that, I say, touché. To be a son or a daughter isn’t an accomplishment in the same way as being a parent. Nobody chooses to be a child, and most kids tend to value other identity labels outside of being somebody’s son or daughter. Wouldn’t you rather be «Kyle The Football Star» over being «Craig’s Son?» Mother and Father’s day function to honor the people who spend decades of their life raising the next generation. Daughters and son’s day? Congratulations on being born, champ. 

Even if it’s not the most traditional or celebrated holiday, National Daughters and Sons Day deserves to be celebrated! Kids did not get asked to be put on this earth, so giving them special thanks for being alive for just one day is what they deserve.
