Peter Jackson gifted Lord of the Rings fans with a topic for discourse recently when he decided to let the world know what his favorite film from the original trilogy was. In an interview with Letterboxd last week, he stated that The Two Towers took the top spot in his personal ranking of all the movies. 

Perhaps this doesn’t come as much of a surprise; it was, after all, the installment that fully introduced characters like Gollum and Faramir, and also brought the action with events such as the iconic Battle of Helm’s Deep. It’s no wonder, really, that the director considers it the peak of LOTR cinema.

Of course, any true fan also sees the quality in every movie in the original trilogy, as well as the books. That is part of the reason that the series lends itself so well to memes, managing to create humor without engaging in too much repetition.
