Do you have a specific favorite film genre, or are you just a movie enthusiast? 

Choosing a favourite film is as hard a task as it is silly. Because it doesn’t really matter which one we choose, it makes no difference in our lives. Yet, when someone asks us, «What’s your favorite movie?» we start spiraling, looking for the perfect answer, fearing what might happen if we give the wrong one. Somehow, telling another person our favorite film is like giving them access to the deepest part of our souls, putting ourselves on the line, and risking being judged, rejected, or laughed at. It’s a lot we’re asking a single film to do for us.

For me, watching movies has always been an emotional experience, ever since I was young.  There are a few movies that are really close to my heart and make me feel at home. I have a thing for old black-and-white movies; they transport you into a different time and era. For me, watching them is one of the many forms of escapism I employ, along with reading. Seeing Audrey Hepburn or Sophia Loren walking around looking so elegant and perfect makes me feel like I’m in Paris or Italy myself. ‘Moon River’ from Breakfast at Tiffany’s is still the song I dream of performing on stage one day, no matter that I’m not a professional singer. There’s something about the glamour of that era that I can’t seem to forget or let go. 

We could go on for hours complaining about the current quality of cinema, the CGI debacle, the simplification of storylines, the lack of imagination, the never-ending remakes, and more. However, we would be getting unnecessarily pretentious and bitter. And we most definitely want to avoid that. On the contrary, we want to celebrate the things we love about film, all of which make us happy.
