‘When I was your age…’: Grandparents memes for anyone raised on love, unsolicited advice, and too much food

«Back in my day…» That’s the opening line of every grandparent story ever told. And we listen carefully, and we respect it. Because we love them. There’s no other human on earth who’s as sweet, as wise, and as dramatic as a grandparent. Somehow, your grandma is always ready to give you food, advice, or a weather update. And your grandpa is always ready for a nap and a family history lesson when you only asked one simple question.

The best part is that grandparents usually mean well. They may not always understand the modern world, but they do understand family. They know how to make you feel cared for in the most simple ways. A simple question from grandma, like asking if you ate, or sending you home with leftovers, or telling you that it’s cold outside and immediately suggesting you wear a jacket. Were they exaggerating? A little. But were they right sometimes? Absolutely.

And they love to remind you that things were harder back in their day. «When I was your age, I walked to school uphill both ways, with one shoe, carrying my lunch in a paper bag and my younger siblings on my back.» In a thunderstorm. And of course, they still made it before the bell rang.

Maybe that’s why they could say the most unfiltered thing at the family gathering and act as if nothing happened. Yeah, completely normal to them. They have lived the hard times, so they feel entitled to say anything. That’s pretty hilarious, sometimes. But sometimes we wish they were just a little more afraid to share their opinions (we know they won’t be).

Grandparents can roast you, worry about you, and feed you, all in the same conversation. That’s why grandparents memes are so relatable. If you were lucky enough to be raised on love, unsolicited advice, and too much food, you’ll certainly relate to these memes that capture grandpa and grandma moments we’ve all been through. Because we hope grandma’s house is never really empty, and grandpa keeps telling us the same stories, even if we have heard them a hundred times.
