Is it possible to give the gift of a good memory without taking away your own enjoyment?
A lot of people like to say that a certain degree of sacrifice is required to make a relationship work, but they do not want to be the ones to make that sacrifice when the opportunity arises. The reality is that even our dream partner is not going to act exactly the way that we want them to 100% of the time, and knowing how to manage that while also considering our own needs is an important relational skill.
While it is rarely a good idea to be a doormat, part of being a good partner is occasionally being selfless for the sake of the other person’s happiness. Broadly speaking, a relationship is meant to make life feel better and easier, which means that being considerate is important. Those times when you took on more work to allow your partner to shine are part of what helps you both enjoy more time together in general. If you truly care about them and still have a strong sense of self, this shouldn’t be that much of a problem. Any issues should be something that you are able to discuss.
