Wife with joint accounts refuses to show husband credit card statements despite spending $19k in 3 months: ‘She is the one who shops for daily items’

Should finances in a marriage always be an open book?

Money can prove to be a big issue in relationships, and it is not always wise to assume that a partner has everything under control just because they say so. In marriage especially, there is the expectation that two people are going to share the journey that they go through with their finances, for better and for worse. There is no question that it is vital to have honest conversations about it.

Nonetheless, there are people that insist on keeping secrets around their partner when it comes to money. While they can occasionally have very good reasons for this, a lot of the time this ends up causing a headache that everybody could have done without. Finding out that there is a surprise debt to pay is a surefire way to get into a nasty argument in a relationship, and it is something that is best avoided.

We are all entitled to our privacy, no matter what our relationship status. However, when something financial may have a direct impact on our partner, it is usually important to come clean. Otherwise, there are only going to be further problems down the line.
