There was a point in time when Facebook was essentially many peoples’ introduction to social media, full stop. For many boomers and Gen X, the education ended there, and we have had to deal with the fallout of that for the past decade or more. Younger millennials and Gen Z mostly moved their focus to other apps. Older millennials and some of the more clued in Gen Xers already had a hang of the whole internet profile thing before it came along, but it still became something that shaped how they viewed people interacting on the internet.

Even now, most vaguely tech-savvy individuals from their mid-twenties onwards could wax lyrical about how Facebook impacted them, no matter what their current opinion is on it. It’s part of the reason why we so many wild occurrences on it even nowadays. It still has some entertainment value for everyone, even if it’s not necessarily the good kind.
