Are you willing to lie in order to get something for free? What if you get completely free housing for 6 long years?
In full honesty, we all tell little white lies or bend the truth a bit to get random things for free. Seriously, who here hasn’t made a membership account at their favorite coffee shop with a completely made-up birthday, just so they could get a little sweet treat for free without having to wait for their actual birthday in 6 months?
But there is an obvious limit to what you can get for free without it becoming exploitation, especially when it comes to the other side, the one who hands you the freebie after you told your little lie. A multi-million-dollar coffee company won’t notice the extra cookie a year you get out of the false membership, but a family or close friend will definitely notice if your lies lead to you fully taking advantage of them, even if they don’t know you’re lying.
Take these sisters as an example of someone taking a «freebie» way too far. A 21-year-old college student asked to move in with her 26-year-old sister while she’s in school, asking to live there for free while she focuses on school and uses the money she saves to pay for her car and student loans. Wanting to help her younger sister, the 26-year-old agreed and welcomed her with open arms.
5 years later, the young sister is still living with the older sister, still contributing nothing, even though she is no longer in school and has a full-time job. Every time the older sister asks her to start pulling her weight and help more, the young sister lashes out and refuses to comply.
The older sister was already close to reaching her boiling point, but when she discovered that her sister lied to her all that time about the car and student loans when their parents revealed that they were paying them all this time, the older sister lost it completely. She has spent half a decade helping a person who had no problem lying to get her way.
Will this be the breaking point to finally kick the sister out?
