Younger Generations are Using ‘Dad-core’ to Prioritize Goofiness and Gentleness Over Antiquated Militant Fathering Styles

He kicks off his workboots by the front door, tugs at the slightly-too-snug hem of his favorite t-shirt, then hijacks the remote before falling asleep on his favorite chair. He’ll never truly wrap his head around your tattoos and doesn’t really understand what you do at your «Internet job,» but he’s immeasurably proud of you anyway, boasting about your career to his golf buddies every Sunday. Like a coconut, despite his seemingly tough exterior, he’s a big softie on the inside—kind, earnest, and a gentle spirit. 

Underneath the shell of societal masculinity lies a man whose shield crumbled the day he held his first child; dad-mode was engaged. Dadcore has shifted a lot over the years, and fathers who once emotionally sequestered themselves away from their children have now become the dads we’ve come to cherish. As times have changed, so has the role of a father in the family and now, appreciative children celebrate their dad’s dadisms with a smile on their face, love in their hearts, and one hand on the AC control panel.
