Why do we always call dogs «good boys?» We don’t really do that to children; it would be weird. I guess we say it to cats sometimes, but less often. There must be something about dogs in particular that makes us want to use that phrase. The good part is more self-explanatory. They are inherently good. Dogs will comfort you when you need comforting without asking any questions. In fact, they never ask questions. That’s not something that they can really do. 

Okay, so there’s no denying that they are good. But why do we insist on bringing their gender into it? I don’t know, it just rolls off the tongue. And they seem to love it. There’s nothing wrong with doing things just because it makes you happy. It doesn’t have to make sense. My robotic piggy bank that makes a mechanical cat paw take the coin… it doesn’t make sense. But it makes me happy.
